For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is not only a blessed month, but also an important period in Islamic history. Historical events that occurred in the month of Ramadan are countless. Some occurred before the prescription for fasting in Ramadan was revealed. Some occurred during the life of the Prophet as a Prophet, all Allhu ‘alayhi wa sallam. And many of them happened after his death, Allhu 'alayhi wa sallam. In this article, we present some events that took place during the holy month that have had an impact on Islam’s progress.

As Allah mentions in Surah Al-Baqarah, Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed.
"The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a
guidance for the people and clear proof of guidance and criterion." (Quran
2:185).
The first 5 verses of Surat al-'Alaq, which mark the
first time it was revealed to the Prophet all Allhu 'alayhi wa sallam at the
Cave of Hirā' in Mecca, were brought by Jibrl 'alayhi al-salm on the 17th of
Ramadan.
2. The Battle of Badr was won

Another important event that took place during Ramadan
was the battle of Badr, which was an important moment in the history of Islam
and Muslims. During this decisive battle, the Islamic state was built. It also
made Muslims a force to be reckoned with in the Arabian Peninsula.
The Battle of Badr took place on the 17th of Ramadan in the second year of Hijra, in which the Muslims were victorious. This was an amazing feat in which Allah assisted the believers with thousands of angels against those who were persecuting them for years on end.
3. Makkah was conquered (Fath Makkah)

On the 10th of Ramadan,
8 AH, the Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.), together with his 10,000 companions,
which was the largest Muslim force ever assembled as of that time, went on
their journey to Makkah. In this context, AlBukhari narrated, on the authority
of Ibn Abbas (R.A.), that:
Narrated Tawus: Ibn Abbas said, Allah's Apostle
travelled in the month of Ramadan and he fasted till he reached (a place
called) Usfan, then he asked for a tumbler of water and drank it by daytime so
that the people might see him. He broke his fast when he reached Mecca. Ibn
Abbas used to say, Allah's Apostle fasted and sometimes did not fast while
traveling, so one may fast or may not (on journeys). 4279 (Sahih Bukhari)
The Conquest of Makkah is the most significant event in Islamic history. With this conquest, both the inside of Makkah and the places around it were cleaned of idols; the hearts of the Quraish were also cleaned of polytheism and became spotless with the light of the oneness of Allah.

As the Mongols reeked havoc across the Earth and
killed people in their millions, Mamluk Sultan Qutuz of Egypt realised he had
to take a stand to save not only Muslims but the rest of the world’s population
from complete demise. So, on the 15th of Ramadan in the year 658 AH, he led the
Muslims in a battle against the Mongols at the Springs of Goliath (Ain-Jalut),
which saw the first ever defeat of the Mongols.
The Mongols were defeated for a second time in the Battle of Shaqab, which also took place in Ramadan in the year 702 AH.
