Is Use A Mirror Efective to Improve Our Presentation?

Hi Efecers, how are you today? Hope you all always in a good condition. Glad to meet you again with a new information. So, let’s get into topic. Is use a mirror effective to improve our presentation? There’s a lot of dilemma that practice in the mirror is good or bad. Well, I’m on that line too. There’s such dilemma that never end. It will be more confusing and make many confrontation about being bad or good. So, we will help you, at least a little way out to find a great method to improve your presentation skill.

Firstly here a list of benefit to practice with mirror.

1.     Mirror help we see what we like.

Speakers will happy to see what they look like while use a mirror. Because we don’t know their expression in that time and will be more they are surprised to see that they are actually different from what they want to show. In that care use mirror will be better than video cameras, because mirrors are more accessible than video cameras. And when speakers are practicing in a mirror, they don’t have to wait to replay.

    2.    Mirror help we learn to smile

Because smile is important thing when we are speaking in public. Mirrors will help us overcome that “pickle-faced” look that so many of us carry around while presenting in public. With a little practice while watch ourselves in the mirror is a good thing to improve our presentation skill.

3.     Mirror also help with eye contact.

Overreliance on notes is just as bad. It makes speaker look like in junior high reading an essay to the class. Great speakers stand in front of audiences and tell their story. They want it look like it’s coming from the heart. Practicing in the mirror will discourages overreliance on notes. Speakers will learn to connect with that person looking back at their. They get a feeling for what their experiences and that’s a good thing.

Secondly, it’s from confront side that using a mirror is a bad thing. This side said it was a completely wrong approach. It could even lead to the exact opposite of what speakers wanted to accomplish. And this is the reason why practicing in front mirror is wrong.

1.     It’s not real

Even, the speaker see what they look like but this is not reality. Practicing in the mirror doesn’t reflect what happens in real life. If we want to practice, we want to get as close as possible to the actual speaking experience. When we see a reflection of ourselves, we will act on it right away. Change the way we look. But that is how we look in the mirror, not on stage. We will not even see how we act on stage because we are focusing on your reflection. What we see is not what we get. This might also mean that we change things that don’t need changing!

2.     It’s a habit speaker need to change, not a moment.

It will be change into habit to address our body language over and over. And will make us fools to thinking we ‘fixed’ our body language. So the things that we should do is change that habit.

3.     The mirror will make speaker focus on gesture, not story.

It will be distracting if we more focusing on details like gestures, movement, and the smallest thing like facial expressions. Which then leads to too much emphasis on those little things and we will lose the focus on our story.

4.    The speaker mirror image might make it nervous.

When we look at ourselves, we emphasize what goes wrong. We are much more aware of what goes wrong. Therefore increasing the likely hood of it actually going wrong. If we see things going wrong we will start thinking about these things more and more. And that will make us nervous.

So here the tips if we don’t practice in the mirror. The first one is practice in front of an audience. We have to find colleagues or other people to see we talk. They can give us feedback as well. Remember to ask them for specific feedback on our body language and not on our story. And the second one is record ourselves. Grab a video camera (on our phone or etc.) and record it. Position the camera so that it has a broad view of how we move (which show our full body). Watch the recording, write down the two or three biggest things we want to change, and do another practice run.

Alright guys, that’s all two opinion that confronting to each other. How about you guys? So what will you choose between use a mirror or use video camera and practice with your friends? Hmm… I think the better one is you can choose all of them because that’s not obligated to choose between those two right? You can practice with a mirror when you can’t practice with your friends or your phone, and vice versa.

Because that two methods are depend on your preference and your convenience. And I suggest to apply it that two methods, because you can get many preferences and adjust to the conditions and circumstances when you want to practice. So, have you already decided? How about your think or you have another suggestion about this just comment below.

See you again next month....
